My Children Make Me A Better Parent

(This post is from back in 2008 also)

My kids teach me to be a better parent!
Current mood:  calm

Havens Lesson:  The other day I was really feeling sick and the house was biginning to get pretty messy.  I told Haven and Xander that they needed to clean their room because I was not feeling well to help them.  They played and played and did not clean their room.  I know what your thinking - they are so young and they will not clean..  That is not true.  They have before.  They do it when its a good time for them to do it, or if they think they are going to get something out of it.  So, I decided to threaten them and it didnt work.  I said I was going to spank them if they didnt do it.  They didnt do it. I didnt want to spank them, I didnt have the strength. So I said to Haven, "Fine if you dont clean I am going to spank you so hard that your butts going to bleed!"  Uh what the hell!? Now every day since she brings it up like I am such a bad mom.  Every time she does something she asks me "well if I dont are you going to make my butt bleed and put me in the hospital."  I NEVER SAID ANYTHING ABOUT THE HOSPITAL!  (Sigh)  So lesson... Dont say retarded things like that to a child.  They will add on and never let it go.

Xanders lesson:  Ever since I said that to them he has been handing out his own little threats.  Haven was making him mad the other day and he said to her, " Haven if you dont knock it off I am going to break your head open and make it bleed because your acting retarded!"  I promise I am not making that up. I heard that and just decided to take a nap!  Shane laughed and said.. "I cant even be mad at him right now because that was a great sentance for a 2 year old!".  I agreed.   But still....    I learned...

We went to Missouri for Thanksgiving.  One of Shane's co workers invited us to go to their daughter in law's mom and dad's house.  I was pretty nervous but I really wanted to go because I have never been to missouri and because it was nice to get out.

We got there and there were a million cars in the parking lot.  I made a carrot cake from scratch.  I made the frosting and everything.  I have never done that before and I couldnt try the cake before I took it so I was extremely nervous. Carrot cake is my second favorite next to cheese cake.   Shane made bread pudding.  Both were actually pretty good by the way.

So anyway..... I was very uncomfortable when we first walked in and had to introduce myself and the kids to everyone... GEESH..  I did well though.  But everyone kept coming up to us and they were so nice and they spoke so nice to us that I started to feel like nothing was wrong and I had been there before.  If that makes any sense.  The father of the house turned out to be a priest who is dying of cancer.  When he prayed he kinda gave a sermon but it was nice.  One of the moms started to cry and that kinda kicked my ass.  So we all ate and then when dinner was over a bunch of the girls asked me if I wanted to play a game with them. It was called Apples to Apples.  I had never heard of it.  I refused but they asked again and I said yes.  I felt like it would be stupid to say no after they had been so nice to me.  So I played... and I won!  After the game was over I felt pretty good.  I was very comfortable.  So then we decided to play one of those games where you have to draw, act out, and do some other stuff... OH HELL!  Of course when it came to my turn (I only ended up with 2) I had to act on both.  First one was Arnold Schwartenalsjdger.. (dont know how to spell his name)  second was the poperozzi.  Dont know how to spell that either.  Either way I could feel my face burning but I did it anyway! And everyone guessed right away and I was so dang thankful for that.

We left a couple hours later and I honestly cant wait until I see those people again.  I really had fun and I didnt know anyone!

I even learned a joke from one of the little boys.  Here it is...

Theres this man and he is talking to another man.  He says ,"I got a new hearing aid and it works great.  I can hear through walls and I can hear people that are standing miles away from me.  I can hear anything now!" So the other man says, "really? Well what kind is it?" The other man looks at his watch and says, "Its 2:30".

So that was a long story and if you read it all.... wow.. you must be really bored.  ;)  Or you really wanted to hear what I had to say and that is good for me.

I went christmas shopping for the first time on Black Friday.  Wasnt too bad. :) Gotta  couple of things pretty cheap for the kids so that is important.  I got everything that I went for so I am good to go.

Okay...  Gotta go.
